Objective: To cause us to want to live out His life on earth. Outline Introduction: My desire is to make Him known. I do hope this is the desire of every person here, too.
Yet, reading the paper today is disheartening. 1. Iraq 2. Clinton 3. 14 year old snowboarder
How do you tell people who live in this type of world about Jesus. How will they listen, why should they? 1. They are skeptical 2. The church is faltering 3. We are on the brink of war 4. Teachers in our parochial schools teach evolution
How can they see Jesus in all this? The God we worship is invisible (1 John 4.12). How are they going to see Him let alone worship Him? How can we show this crazy world there is comfort in our Jesus?
How can they see the truth of Philippians 2.5-11: 1. Jesus is God 2. He is our only hope 3.He deserves our time and our worship
How can we show them Jesus is the answer to the problems and questions of life when they see 1. Division in the church and family 2. Pride 3. Gossip 4. Church splits 5. No joy in the church 6. No life in the church
We need to show them Matthew 11.28-30 is true by living it out. Verse 27 tells us this the only way they will come to His comfort is if they first come to Him. We need to show them unity, love, and humility. 1. Unity 2. Love 3. Humility a. One in intent and disposition b. One-souled c. A life directed to one single aim (to give Him glory) d. A mind whose disposition is harmony
Our church needs to become a place of comfort to people, all people. And it won’t until we can show them Jesus. I have three points to share with you on this.
1. Grounds for Unity (1) a. The struggle without (1.27-30) b. The struggle within c. Unity is already a reality in the church d. In view of this verse all strife should end.
a. The results of our unity is an adjustment to our thought life and our physical life. b. The basis of our joy is found here. 1) it is in our fellowship with God and man (1 John 1.1-4) 2) it is in the adjustment of our thought life about ourselves and others (2 Corinthians 10.4-5)
a. The spiritual problem b. Remedy 1) selfishness 1) humility of mind 2) empty conceit 2) proper regard for each 3) looking out for own interests other 3) selfless concern for the interest and welfare of others. 4) this can only happen because of verse 1
Verses 5-11 are the supreme example and illustration of these characteristics. They are how we are to be as a body of believers. 2.1 2.5 2.2 2.5 2.3 2.6 2.3 2.7 2.3 2.8
Conclusion: How are we to bring glory to God? By bringing people to Him. How can we bring people to Him? By showing Him to them. By this shall all men know that I am for real, your love for one another.
