{"id":902,"date":"2012-04-17T05:44:33","date_gmt":"2012-04-17T12:44:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teach4god.com\/OTS\/?p=902"},"modified":"2014-04-02T05:32:32","modified_gmt":"2014-04-02T12:32:32","slug":"psalm-67","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/04\/17\/psalm-67\/","title":{"rendered":"Psalm 67"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm%2067&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Psalm 67<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Verse 1-As with Psalm 66 (<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/04\/16\/psalm-66\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">see our study<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>)<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">, this psalm calls all people to see that the Lord is good and that the Lord is God. This psalm is a psalm of God\u2019s blessing. The prayer is much like the priestly blessing of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Numbers%206.24-26&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Numbers 6.24-26<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">, wherein God will look graciously upon us and not turn His back to us\u00a0(a sign of judgement). Each verse expresses the same thought using different terms to help the reader focus on the blessing and the protection. He states that He will bless you, and keep you; that He will make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; and that He will turn his face toward you and give you peace. When God faces us, we receive His greatest blessing which is to see Him (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew%205.8&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Matthew 5.8<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">). The greatest curse we can receive from God is when He turns His back to us. Think of Jesus on the cross, utter darkness and complete wrath were His lot as God the Father judged our sins upon Him (<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Matthew 27.45-46<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>)<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>There is one major difference which we have seen in many of the psalms (<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/04\/14\/psalm-53\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">see our study of Psalm 53<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>)<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">. That difference is in Numbers the word used for God in the Hebrew is the word for the God of Israel which is Jehovah\u00a0(\u05d9\u05b0\u05bd\u05d4\u05d5\u05b8\u05d4)<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">. The word here is Elohim (\u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b4\u05d9\u05dd) <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">which is the God above all other gods, the triune Godhead.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>With all this going on, the psalmist calls us to pause and consider these truths for ourselves (Selah).<\/p>\n<p>Is God your blessing because you stand in right relationship with Him as His child or is God your cursing because you stand in wrong relationship with Him as a child of the devil. Sounds harsh, doesn\u2019t it? Read <span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John%208.31-47&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">John 8.31-47<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Verse 2-The verse expands the blessing that the name Elohim (\u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b4\u05d9\u05dd) <span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">suggests in verse one that is for God to be known to all the nations not just Israel.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Verses 3-4-The psalmist now presents the case for all the world to be\u00a0praise God. His desire\u00a0is for the nations to know the saving grace of God as seen in the acts of righteous judgement that He makes. He again asks us to consider, to pause, to reflect\u00a0(Selah) on this matter for our lives. Do you live your life in such a way that others are drawn\u00a0to God and desire to know Him (<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/04\/16\/psalm-66\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">see our study of Psalm 66<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">).<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Verses 5-7-The psalmist repeats verse three as a chorus of sorts pleading that the nations might know Him. The nations are to bless God because of His sovereign reign over all the earth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Does your life draw men to God? Read <span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Zechariah%208.20-23&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Zechariah 8.20-23<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">. Is this what people do in light of what God is doing through you? If so, praise Him; if not, ask yourself why not (Selah).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Interesting numbers in this psalm:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The phrase &#8220;Bless us&#8221; is used three times.<\/li>\n<li>The phrase &#8220;Praise you&#8221; is used four times.<\/li>\n<li>The word &#8220;us&#8221; referring to Israel is used six times.<\/li>\n<li>The word &#8220;nations&#8221; is used nine times.<\/li>\n<li>A reference to God is made fifteen times with a picture of the trinity involved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All this in seven verses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Does your life draw men to God?
