Even though they were distant relatives, there was great hatred between the two nations. God will later pronounce a great judgement on this nation (<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ezekiel%2025.1-7&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Ezekiel 25.1-7<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After the wars in 2 Samuel 8 (<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/04\/12\/2-samuel-8\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">see our study<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>)<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">, the king of Ammon died. David sent a contingent of\u00a0men to show respect to his friend, the deceased king. It seems that Nahash (see <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1%20Chronicles%2019.1&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">1 Chronicles 19.1<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>)<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"> showed David kindness when he fled from Saul. This is the same king that Saul defeated but did not destroy as commanded in 1 Samuel 11 (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/02\/02\/1-samuel-10-11\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">see our study<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>)<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">. Nahash\u2019s son, Hanun, doesn\u2019t think David is on a friendly mission due to the influence of\u00a0his counselors. It could have been a combination of both reconnaissance and condolences. We see in <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2%20Samuel%2011.1&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">2 Samuel 11.1<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">\u00a0that David\u2019s armies first attacked Rabbah which is a large Ammonite city.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Shaving the beard and cutting the clothing was an insult tantamount to a declaration of\u00a0war.
