{"id":787,"date":"2012-04-09T07:05:19","date_gmt":"2012-04-09T14:05:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teach4god.com\/OTS\/?p=787"},"modified":"2014-04-02T05:22:32","modified_gmt":"2014-04-02T12:22:32","slug":"psalm-132","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/04\/09\/psalm-132\/","title":{"rendered":"Psalm 132"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm%20132&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Psalm 132<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is another <span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/02\/11\/introduction-to-the-psalms\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">psalm of ascents<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">\u00a0and is the longest one. The authorship is unknown. It could have been Davidic (but verses 1, and 10-11 belie this) or Solomonic as a dedication of\u00a0the newly built Temple. Whoever the author, this is a prayer given which asks God to remember His promises and is in connection with the Ark coming to Jerusalem and with the promise of the building of the Temple. This places the topic of the writing in time with our studies in 1 Chronicles and 2 Samuel (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2%20Samuel%207.8-16&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">2 Samuel 7.8-16<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"> [see study] and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1%20Chronicles%2017.11-14&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">1 Chronicles 17.11-14<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"> [see our study]). Second Samuel is the Davidic Covenant and 1 Chronicles is the oath by God to build the Temple through David\u2019s son, Solomon.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Verses 1-5-Remember David\u2019s oath to build the Temple (<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/03\/30\/2-samuel-5-11-25\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">see our study on 2 Samuel 5<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Verses 6-7-Remember David\u2019s bringing the Ark to Jerusalem (<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/04\/02\/1-chronicles-16\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">see our study on 1 Chronicles 16<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">). The writer recollects that David heard of the Ark in his youth as seen in the reference to Ephrathah, which is another name for David\u2019s hometown of Bethlehem (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Micah%205.2&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Micah 5.2<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis%2048.7&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Genesis 48.7<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">).<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Verses 8-10-A prayer for God to remember the Ark and the King. The phrase &#8220;Your anointed&#8221; could refer both to David\u2019s descendants and his ultimate descendant Jesus Christ, the Anointed One (Messiah).<\/li>\n<li>Verses 11-18-A restating of the Davidic Covenant (2 Samuel 7.8-16)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The prayers of verses 8-10 are answered in verses 16-18.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength (8).<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>This is My resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it (14).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness (9a).<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>Her priests also I will clothe with salvation (16a).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>And let Your godly ones sing for joy (9b).<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>And her godly ones will sing aloud for joy (16b).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<li>For the sake of David Your servant, do not turn away the face of Your anointed (10).<\/li>\n<ul>\n<li>There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared\u00a0a lamp for Mine anointed. . . . But upon himself his crown shall shine (17, 18b).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During times of difficulty or praise, we need to record our prayers, desires, thoughts, and life so we might see God at work in our lives. When trials come, and they will, having a recorded testimony of God\u2019s work in your life along with answered prayers will strengthen you and those around you.
