{"id":652,"date":"2012-03-25T06:11:46","date_gmt":"2012-03-25T13:11:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teach4god.com\/OTS\/?p=652"},"modified":"2014-04-02T05:33:45","modified_gmt":"2014-04-02T12:33:45","slug":"psalm-133","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/03\/25\/psalm-133\/","title":{"rendered":"Psalm 133"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm%20133&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Psalm 133<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"> (Possibly written after <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1%20Chronicles%2012.38&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">1 Chronicles 12.38<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"> occurred; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/03\/24\/1-chronicles-12\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">read the study<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Verse 1-This short psalm focuses our attention on unity (as does Jesus in <span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John%2017&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">John 17<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">). This is also a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/02\/11\/introduction-to-the-psalms\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Psalm of Ascents<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">\u00a0with David as the author. Therefore, the focus of the unity is found in Zion, or Jerusalem. A summary of the passage, then, could be: In order to dwell together in unity we need to participate in corporate worship together. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%2010.19-25&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Hebrews 10.19-25<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">\u00a0focuses on our need to assemble together. It is housed in a passage on accountability (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%2010.26-31&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Hebrews 10.26-31<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">). <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Verse 2-Looking at the imagery in verse two we see hyperbole being used to represent the all-consuming grace of God pouring over the unified tribes. The High Priest wore a breastplate on which were the twelve stones representing each tribe. As God\u2019s Spirit or grace, the oil, was poured\u00a0down, it encompassed all the tribes. The unity was there, now it is blessed by the presence of God.<\/p>\n<p>Verse 3-Mount Hermon is geographically for the Israelites what Aaron was spiritually for them. God proclaimed that He would bless the Israelites with water from Mount Hermon (<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Leviticus%2025.21&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Leviticus 25.21<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy%2028.8&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Deuteronomy 28.8<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">). This blessing comes through the source of the Jordan River and through the gathering of clouds that produces the rain (or the dew) for the entire land. God uses His creation to bless His creatures.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>When the unity God has given us is lived\u00a0out, we are blessed\u00a0and we bless those around us as-well. We live the life God created for us to live and we are blessed. We also display the love of God in such a way that those around us want that life too.<\/p>\n<p>David proclaims unity that needs to be\u00a0lived out. The unity is there, but it needs to be acted. Jesus proclaims our unity. We do not need to pray for unity, but we need to live out that unity (<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ephesians+4&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Ephesians 4<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">). If you notice, the unity in Ephesians is also couched in the concept of corporate worship and the working out of the gifts with which the Holy Spirit has endowed each believer.
