{"id":319,"date":"2012-02-14T05:57:47","date_gmt":"2012-02-14T13:57:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teach4god.com\/OTS\/?p=319"},"modified":"2014-04-02T05:31:54","modified_gmt":"2014-04-02T12:31:54","slug":"psalm-52","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/02\/14\/psalm-52\/","title":{"rendered":"Psalm 52"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=%20Psalm%2052&amp;amp;version=NASB\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Psalm 52<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> is a short Psalm that provides a poetic backdrop to the historical context of when Doeg\u00a0was sent\u00a0by Saul to kill Ahimelech&#8217;s family in <a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/02\/12\/1-samuel-21-24\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">1 Samuel 21 and 22<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Verses 1-3-Historically, Doeg\u00a0lies about Ahimelech. He told Saul that Ahimelech\u00a0was conspiring against his kingdom when he said that Ahimelech was aiding David&#8217;s escape (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1%20Samuel%2022.9-10&amp;amp;version=NASB\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">1 Samuel 22.9-10<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>). What words are you speaking today? Do they reflect\u00a0godliness\u00a0or wickedness? Do you enjoy gossip? Do you tell half-truths, which are lies, in order to\u00a0get out of trouble? When you do this, you are emulating Doeg. This is why David places the <a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/02\/11\/introduction-to-the-psalms\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Selah<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> here.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Verses 4-5-David pronounces God&#8217;s judgment on Doeg\u00a0and all who are like him. Selah, consider that the next time you speak words.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Verses 6-7-The Hebrew here is interesting at the end of verse seven. Instead of the word &#8220;wealth&#8221; it has &#8220;in his destruction.&#8221; Paul reminds us in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1%20tim%206.10&amp;amp;version=NASB\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">1 Timothy 6.10<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> that the pursuit of wealth (anything other than the pursuit of God) leads to destruction (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Proverbs%2014.12&amp;amp;version=NASB\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Proverbs 14.12<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>).<\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_2_0_1_1329098005846547\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Verses 8-9-David ends this Psalm with confidence in whom God is and an exclamation of\u00a0praise before God&#8217;s people. We should never belittle what God has done in our lives. We need to tell what the Lord has done for us on a regular basis. We need to do this because He is good.
