{"id":1030,"date":"2012-05-01T05:40:47","date_gmt":"2012-05-01T12:40:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teach4god.com\/OTS\/?p=1030"},"modified":"2014-04-02T05:23:38","modified_gmt":"2014-04-02T12:23:38","slug":"psalm-40","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/05\/01\/psalm-40\/","title":{"rendered":"Psalm 40"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm%2040&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Psalm 40<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some consider this psalm to be\u00a0two psalms connected. They state that Psalm 70 is merely a repeat of Psalm 40.13-17 and there once was a psalm that contained the first twelve verses. The reasoning behind this is the difference in the two sections. They appear\u00a0to be reversed. The thanksgiving (1-8) is presented before the lament (11-17). This is mention for your information; I choose not to pursue the topic and count it as one psalm.<\/p>\n<p>When this psalm is read, it is a reminder that patience is part of prayer. In fact the Hebrew is emphatic here. David actually writes that in his waiting, he is waiting. David cries out to God asking Him how long until He would answer David\u2019s prayer. Notice it is not if He will answer but when He will answer. If there is a desire for a discussion on prayer, please respond and I will post one at a later date. David proclaims God\u2019s greatness and then proclaims God\u2019s great claim on our life (see sacrifices above). He wants all of us not a portion of\u00a0us. He wants us completely, not syncretically. Verses 6-8 are echoed\u00a0of Christ in Hebrews 10.5-9 for Christ\u2019s perfect, complete, and final sacrifice for our sins (cf. <span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Leviticus%2017.11&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Leviticus 17.11<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">).<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Verses 9-10-When God works, He expects us to proclaim that work among our friends.<\/li>\n<li>Verses 11-17-<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/04\/18\/psalm-70\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">See our study of Psalm 70<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Many have attempted to place each verse in the mouth of Christ. They see the first portion\u00a0of the psalm as Christ\u2019s resurrection, the middle verses as Christ\u2019s public ministry, and the final\u00a0verses reflect the cross.<\/p>\n<p>Have you offered your all to God? He is worthy of it. Many of us live a syncretic life without even realizing what we are doing. Instead of referring to the Bible for our guidance, we turn to friends, web sites, and other we celebrate. When we do this, how can we expect the God who expects our all to listen to what we say.
