{"id":1006,"date":"2012-04-28T23:14:55","date_gmt":"2012-04-29T06:14:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.teach4god.com\/OTS\/?p=1006"},"modified":"2014-04-02T05:26:29","modified_gmt":"2014-04-02T12:26:29","slug":"2-samuel-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/04\/28\/2-samuel-16\/","title":{"rendered":"2 Samuel 16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2%20Samuel%2016&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">2 Samuel 16<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The opening of this chapter and the conclusion of the matter in <span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2%20Samuel%2019.24-30&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">2 Samuel 19.24-30<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"> (see our study) presents the truth of the proverb that states what a man says seems true until the other side is heard (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Proverbs%2018.17&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">Proverbs 18.17<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">). Ziba, who we introduced in our study of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/04\/13\/2-samuel-9\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">2 Samuel 9<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">, presents his case that Mephibosheth (see the same study) is attempting to bring back the kingdom of Saul.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The chapter can be outlined according to the characters introduced:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Verses 1-4-Ziba\u00a0the Liar. Ziba\u00a0lied to David about the character of Mephibosheth. Since there were two extra donkeys, do you suppose one was for Mephibosheth\u00a0and the other for Ziba? Why do you think David believed him? Satan is the Liar who also tells half-truths, to which of his lies do you listen?<\/li>\n<li>Verses 5-8-Shimei\u00a0the Accuser. Being a relative of Saul and a resident of\u00a0Bahurim, Shimei\u00a0may have had a few reasons for hating David. He felt David stole the throne from the Benjamites\u00a0and that David disgraced Saul\u2019s daughter Michal by humiliating her second husband in the city of\u00a0Bahurim (<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2%20Samuel%203.16&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">2 Samuel 3.16<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/02\/29\/2-samuel-3\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">see our study<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">). The ranting of Shimei\u00a0was more of a curse on David than an attempt to\u00a0hurt him physically. He was more or less\u00a0throwing stones at David to get rid of him much like someone would do to a stray dog (13-14). Shimei stated he was speaking on behalf of God. Whether he was or not, we cannot tell; however, David believed he could have been (10). <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Verses 9-14-Abishai\u00a0the Avenger. Abishai is still protecting David, his king (<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/teach4god.com\/OTS\/2012\/02\/18\/1-samuel-26\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">see our study of 1 Samuel 26<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">). He uses the imagery of the dog in his attack on Shimei.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Verses 15-23-Ahithophel\u00a0the Traitor. Ahithophel\u00a0convinces Absalom to sleep with David\u2019s concubines in the presence of\u00a0all Jerusalem. This was in fulfillment of the consequences of David sleeping with Bathsheba (<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2%20Samuel%2012&amp;version=NASB\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS; color: #0000ff;\">2 Samuel 12<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>)<span style=\"font-family: Trebuchet MS;\">.
